NWS reminds people about the dangers of lightning


PLEASANT HILL, Mo. - We're at the midpoint of Severe Weather Prepardness Week in Missouri and Kansas and the National Weather Service wants people to remember the dangers associated with lightning.

Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Jimmy Barham told KXCV/KRNW that tragedies in school sponsored athletics are unfortunately a growing trend.

He adds that there are an estimated 25 million cloud-to-ground lightning flashes each year.
